Skipping Rope Exercises for People that Care
Is your training routine getting a little boring? A little stagnant? Are you looking for a new, unique method of training? More likely than not, it’s probably time for a few changes.
My training belief is that you should constantly be stepping outside of your comfort zone to improve your fitness level. You should always be challenging yourself in new ways. That’s how you get better.
If you’re looking for a new way to challenge your cardiovascular fitness, it’s time to check out the power of skipping rope. This is a form of training that is often overlooked and underutilized.
Skipping rope exercises have the ability to improve your balance and coordination. They have the power to improve your timing, rhythm and mental focus. Most notably, skipping rope can drastically improve your cardiovascular fitness and the incredible physique that comes with it.
From all my years of boxing, I’ve found that the best way to take advantage of skipping rope exercises is to use them in an interval format. Basically you will be alternating intervals of high intensity and low intensity skipping. For instance, an effective routine would be to alternate 15 seconds of double jumps with 30 seconds of slow, regular skipping. This high-low combination effectively increases your EPOC levels and heart rate.
Another effective way of utilizing skipping is to incorporate it into your dynamic warm-up. Skipping does a great job of prepping your body for movement and loosening up your muscles and joints. I sometimes also use it for my cool down period.
Just one important reminder when it comes to skipping – don’t quit on yourself. Learning how to skip can be a painful and frustrating endeavour but if you stick with it you’ll pick it up in no time. It’s like anything else in life – if you want to get good at it you have to practice.
If you happen to be on the lookout for unique ways of challenging your body, then check out these skipping rope exercises. They’ll help take your fitness to another level.
